The woods awakened this morning under a deep cover of snow. A fresh snowfall over the holidays is usually welcome, except that it’s Easter today, not Christmas.
The snow likely convinced the spring bulbs to wait a couple more days before blooming. I thought for sure they’d be open by Easter morning.
Of course we can always depend on the resilience of certain creatures to hang in there, regardless of the weather. Above freezing temperatures are anticipated for the rest of the week so all of that snow will soon be history. Unfortunately, the mosquitos are just getting started.
Happy Easter to all.
Amazing weather! Happy Easter to you too Amy Lynn
Lynne, I hope you enjoyed a Happy Easter with your little flower. The snowfall was quite a surprise but we did need the precipitation. Things aren’t as dry as they are in England but it’s drier than usual in the woods.
Stranger things have happened….Nature has no calendar. So bizarre, we have sunny blue skies here. Happy Easter.
Martina, no calendar indeed! I can only wonder what’s in store for Mother’s Day in May. Hope you had a Happy Easter too 🙂
Happy White Easter to you, Ms. Amy-Lynn! I am always astounded to see mosquitoes in snow. It always feels like the Twilight Zone, as in “what’s wrong with this picture”?
Kathy, the most amazing thing I’ve seen on snow are… snow fleas! Sybil and I saw them a couple of winters ago. She had heard of them before but I hadn’t. It does seem like we are living more and more in the Twilight Zone.
Happy Easter Amy-Lynn. The snow will be gone soon enough and your daffs will be blooming …
Sybil, yes those daffies are blooming. They shrugged off the snow pretty quickly.
Surprised to see snow–and a mosquito! Happy Easter.
Patti, it won’t be long before those mosquitoes and black flies are everywhere in the woods and the salt marsh. With so little water in the woods due to low precipitation, maybe there will be fewer this year. Now that would be a pleasant surprise. Hope you had a Happy Easter.
So sad, but Christmas and Easter do have something special in common…
All in Mama Nature’s own good time, isn’t it. (It always amazes me when people say “Daylight Saving Time” will add hours to the day.) The evidence of winter-hardy mosquitoes makes me unutterably morose. I’m going to go have a little cry now. Perhaps we should plant mosquito-eating pitcher plants instead of daffodils.
Gerry, I think you’re on to something worthwhile with those mosquito-eating pitcher plants. Bats and more bats are just what we need to keep those blood-sucking mosquitoes in check.
A mosquito walking on snow – now there’s something you don’t see every day! Hope your Easter was as wonderful as it was white…
Barbara, it was wonderful despite an inability to do an Easter egg hunt in the woods. You can’t ‘plant’ eggs outdoors after an unexpected snowfall and expect children to not see your footprints.
Bunny slippers.
Why didn’t I think of that?!?
🙂
