An epiphany reveals that which was formerly hidden. It’s the last piece to the puzzle that finally makes the whole complete… an ‘Aha!’ or ‘Eureka!’ moment if you will, that brings sudden clarity. In the Christian calendar, Epiphany is a celebration of the revelation that Jesus is the son of God. Although epiphanies are usually short-lived, they can impact our way of looking at life for days, weeks and even years to come.
In nature, the dawn is a perfect example of this sudden revelation, an uncovering of the unknown. For me, the joy of seeing the sun rise puts a sparkle on the whole day.
Here is a slide show of past sunrises in celebration of Epiphany, the last day of the Christmas season.
Song of Joy
Come sing a song of joy for peace shall come, my brother
Sing, sing a song of joy for men shall love each other
That day will dawn just as sure as
Hearts that are pure are hearts set free
No man must stand alone
With outstretched hand before him
Reach out and take them in yours
With love that endures forever more
Then sing a song of joy
For love and understanding~ Miguel Rios
Those pictures are magnificent, Amy. Well-captured… they have a dreaminess about them too. Love it.
Reggie, the dreamy quality of the images may be due to the fact that I’m probably still half asleep while taking the photos. Glad you liked them 🙂
Beautiful. I watched the slide show and thought how much your sunrise looks like my sunset. There is a comfort in that knowledge I think.
Dawn, that IS pretty cool. Since we’re on opposite coasts, it sort of makes sense.
Now you have me humming Beethoven and thinking how good it would be if I went out to look for sunrises instead of huddling inside over my coffee. Good work, Amy-lynn!
Gerry, I’ve had Miguel Rios singing Song of Joy in my head since I heard him on Seaside FM a few days ago. I imagine Beethoven by himself has similar sticking power. Good luck with that 🙂 And getting up and out early too!
Thank you so much for another post of beautiful images and beautiful thoughts. Cow Bay! The simplicity of its name is perfection.
Pamela, ‘Cow Bay’ is QUITE the place name. There’s actually another Cow Bay in Queensland, Australia. They probably don’t have cows there either.
Lovely photos – there is a grayish/mercury/mirror-like reflection to some of them, as if Alice was about to emerge from the waters.
And today is Epiphany! This is the day that I’ll be taking down all of my Christmas decorations.
Thank you aubrey. I can imagine mermaids emerging from those waters so it’s not much of a stretch for me to see Alice doing the same.
I’ll be taking down my decorations today too. The house always seems so bare afterwards.
Beautiful photos, as usual, Amy!
I know what you mean about the house seeming so bare after taking down the Christmas decorations. I wonder if the solution might be to put away all of one’s usual decor items before putting up Christmas stuff, rather than adding the Christmas stuff to what is already there. Then, when we put away the Christmas decorations, and put back the “normal” ones, maybe it would not feel so bare, after all. 🙂
Thanks Joan. Dawn (http://sahlah.wordpress.com/2011/01/08/epiphany-sunrise-and-sunset/) on your side of the continent created a similar slideshow of sunsets. You might like to have a look.
That’s a really good idea about putting non-Christmas stuff away before the holidays. I eliminated so much stuff this summer though, that there’s not much left to put away!

Beautiful post! Epiphany is one of my favorite words, as an engineer I have small and big epiphanies at regular frequency; still there must be The Epiphany.
🙂
Thank you swaps. ‘Epiphany’ is one of those words that sounds like its meaning. Wishing you many of them in 2011 🙂
Thanku Amy! And wish you the same 🙂
