Yesterday’s spectacular sunrise was a welcome sight after the storm experienced on Monday. But today’s seemed at least as awesome. The accompanying chatter of Canada geese made both displays especially memorable.
I wonder if geese and other wild creatures take note of the beauty around them. When migrating geese wake up to rainy skies do they feel the same as they do when they awaken to a beautiful sunrise?
One thing’s for sure: clearer skies do improve visibility. But even if the eagle’s eyes have difficulty seeing in the rain or fog, I doubt if there are any complaints about it. Though the storms of life may slow them down, eagles still hunt and geese still migrate, regardless of the weather. Like the wild birds, our ability to wake up and get to the work set before us should not depend so much on external factors.
Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakens.

However, there’s nothing like a beautiful sunrise to breathe new hope into the day that lies ahead.
Beautiful eagle photo! (I was happy to “capture” one, too, last month.) I don’t think the geese and eagles contemplate beauty. I could be 100% wrong. I think they are so in the present moment that everything is what it is. Perhaps that is-ness is beauty itself.
Kathy, I checked out the eagle you captured. It’s beautiful. Animals certainly do live life to the fullest in the present. (Except for those squirrels, chickadees and blue jays that stash food for future consumption).
Lovely images.
Thank you 47whitebuffalo. I just happened to be there at a good time 🙂
Truly lovely sunrises, Amylynn. I never tire of the light moving over the waters.
I’ve been pondering whether animals respond to what I think of as beauty, and I’ve concluded that they do not. Miss Sadie and the Cowboy never stop to look at a sunset, or blazing leaves, or a flower. They are not intrigued by the arts in any form. But they are utterly focused on things I cannot see, and these things give them joy.
Gerry, light moving over the water is as magical as it gets.
While writing this post I almost added that idea about art appreciation separating man from the beasts. They may not appreciate the visual arts but they do take scent appreciation to another level entirely.
Wow, I really like that quote from Jung. And Kathy’s comment was so wise…
Reggie, ‘they are so in the present moment that everything is what it is.’
Wise words indeed. That Kathy 🙂
That Tuesday sunrise was indeed spectacular. I feel privileged to be able to see it after the fact.
There’s no reason to think birds (or dogs) would respond as we do to visual beauty, but I can very well imagine them having a variable sense of well-being, depending on light, barometric pressure, temperature, wind, etc. There are days when birds seem to wheel through the air for no reason other than sheer joy. Why not?
My dog, Sarah, doesn’t care about sunsets, but she responds differently to different weather and different surroundings. Maybe “beauty” for her comes through her nose rather than her eyes.
Pamela, glad you enjoyed the sunrise 🙂 We are so visually-oriented that we probably miss a lot of what goes on around us. If I could fly through the air like a bird I’d be happy just to feel the wind in my wings.
Here we are having bright balmy days, only slightly cold…very pleasant, just like it was last winter.
Amy, the last photo is awesome…ABSOLUTELY!!
Swaps, it’s a bit colder here today. We are being spoiled. We can only imagine what January has in store for us.
Unfortunately, that last photo is missing the accompanying honking of the geese. I heard somewhere that migrating birds get direction for the day’s flight at the rising of the sun. It seemed like they were making their flight plans.
What a beautiful treat to eyes 🙂
Loved the pics, especially second and the last! Simply awesome. 🙂
