July 2nd 2010. One dawn. One fantillion colors. How could just one sunrise possibly exude such a varied palette of yellows, oranges, pinks, purples and blues? Just another of nature’s wonders that will likely remain a mystery for the ages.
I’ll tell you how the sun rose a ribbon at a time.
~ Emily Dickenson
All photos were taken at sunrise near and in Rainbow Haven provincial park in Cow Bay, Nova Scotia. The beach will be filled with people today, each one enjoying the sand and the surf, none of them ever realizing what a spectacle took place here this morning.
There is more day to dawn.
~ Henry David Thoreau
You captured the secret moment of the day – dressing and trying on colors before she started out to begin the day’s work! 🙂
Gorgeous.
What a perfect allegory Dawn! Just like so many women, despite what bright colors are available in her wardrobe, she always settles on something more subdued to wear for the rest of the day.
This is good too, Dawn !!
Wouldn’t it be something to see those colors for a whole day? My absolute favorite is the second from last–the reflected clouds looking like rising steam. It’s just beautifully composed, Amy. Nice job. Nice Bay!
Gerry,it would certainly be amazing. That one is my favorite too. Mist or the illusion of it seems to add a touch of mystery to the landscape that I find most appealing.
I love your pictures. This winter, your pictures will give me a taste of home.
Erika, so nice to hear from you 🙂
I’ll be sure to post lots of photos of the snow-filled driveway for your viewing enjoyment this winter 😉
When my artist husband sees these photographs, he will want to head for Nova Scotia right away!
Pamela, of course he would! But sometimes it’s the time of day, rather than just the place, that has the potential to inspire.
Wouldn’t any day be wonderful after such a dawn ? You would have light in your heart for many many hours 🙂 Thank you for these fabulous pictures and the thoughts they inspire.
Isa, it was a wonderful day. So glad you found inspiration here.
Truly inspiring, indeed. I often think of you out in the dawn colors, before the rest of the world has begun to stir. It looks like the goddess of the sky world took out her jars of paint and set out to create a morning masterpiece. How fortunate you were there to experience it and share it with us!
Kathy, that certainly was a remarkable dawn. I was out early this morning too, but the sky was just varying shades of grey all through the sunrise minutes. She probably used up most of her paints the other day.
wow! beautiful uplifting shots.
Thanks Wind.
What magical photos you’ve shared! You’ve captured that moment of each day that exudes hope. Thanks so much.
Tammy, yes lots of hope at that time of day when all things are still a possibility 🙂
All that wondermous beauty in one sunrise? You are truly blessed to revel in it and we are blessed to be able to share it with you!
Cindy, yes all within about 15 minutes.
Wooah! Cool … these photos are very good, esp the mirror like pond.
But, the BEST ever description of a sunrise …
I’ll tell you how the sun rose a ribbon at a time.
I am speechless.
Thanks Amy 🙂
Swaps, that line blows me away too. Glad you liked the images.
Lovely pics. “Fantillion” ? Great word.
Love the little poem.
Sybil, I looked up numerous possibilities, ie. kazillion and squidillion, before finally settling on fantillion. All for your reading enjoyment 🙂
Wonderful shots! What a way to start a day. I can’t wait to get to Nova Scotia where I’m heading for my retirement. Another whole year to wait, but I shall keep tuned to your blog for reminders of what’s waiting in the wings for me.Thank you!
You’re welcome Lynne. I think the sunrise is pretty amazing regardless of where you are on the planet, but it’s always especially beautiful to see it reflected on the water… and Nova Scotia certainly has a lot of shoreline both on the ocean and on lakes. Hopefully you’ll eventually find a spot here that’s ideal for you.
Beautiful pics… 🙂
