Earth, my dearest, I will. Oh believe me, you no longer need your springtimes to win me over – one of them, ah, even one, is already too much for my blood. Unspeakably, I have belonged to you, from the first.
~ Rainer Maria Rilke
The Earth doesn’t care about age or wrinkles. What’s a decade or two when you’re a billion years old and a few cracks when you’re scarred regularly by earthquakes?
And what does the Earth care about how often the floor is swept? It considers last autumn’s litter simply next year’s humus.
And so what does the Earth value? Could the persistence of grass be a clue?
Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.
~ Kahlil Gibran
Where man finds dissatisfaction, the Earth finds promise and the potential for renewal. Fallen trees and fallen leaves are all cherished for what they can offer now, not just the strength and beauty they possessed in days gone by.
Spring is in the air and it’s Earth Day. Get outdoors and let yourself fall in love.
Ohh, this is so beautiful, both the images and the words – this really should be Freshly Pressed, Amy. Quite enchanting…
Thanks Reggie. Is it still Earth Day in South Africa? Hope you had a chance to get outdoors 🙂
Happy Earth Day, Amy-Lynn! I see you shared a love story here in honor of our dear Mother Earth. She’s smiling through clouds here.
Happy Earth Day to you too Kathy! She’s smiling through clouds here today too 🙂
Lovely post Amy-Lynn. Your words are like poetry. Happy Earth Day !
Thanks Sybil. Happy Earth Day to you too 🙂
Earth Day is indeed EVERY Day. I like that you mentioned the fallen leaves and trees that move on to new cycles in their existence–fertilizing the soil and providing homes for earnest woodpeckers.
47whitebuffalo, yes it is every day. Earth was recycling long before the idea ever caught on with humans 😉
I am in love with Spring! I’ve been walking in the Cumbria Fells! It’s heaven on earth……….day!
Lynne, nothing is supposed to be lovelier than England in springtime so I can’t blame you. Sounds like you had a wonderful day.
The earth is enjoying a much-needed, refreshing rainfall here this morning.
Patti, it rained here a bit too but we need so much more. The woods are very dry for this time of year.
I am in love with that particular upside-down woodpecker. Happy Earth Day to you, Amy-Lynn.
Sorry Gerry. Unfortunately, that attractive little woodpecker already has a mate. I often see her in the woods too. Hope you had a happy Earth Day 🙂
Beautifully done. Hoping people will see the Earth for what she is…Home to all creatures, not just us.
Thanks Scott. It is indeed home for us all.
I just love this post! My daughter, who was born on Earth Day, loves that her special day is also a celebration of the our planet and all she does and gives to us. My fav line “And what does the Earth care about how often the floor is swept? It considers last autumn’s litter simply next year’s humus.” Brilliant!!
Glad you enjoyed it Gracielu. I hope all your daughter’s birthdays are out of this world 🙂
I really loved this post, all the words and pics fitted together so well. Thank you. Its beautiful
Lis, I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂 Thank you.
