Cut years ago, these stacked logs are grey and covered in fungus. Some are hollow and contain lacy shreds of what remains of their core.
Sometimes it’s difficult to tell which trees are hollow until a storm comes along and they are cracked in half and blown down. Although they might appear steadfast and healthy on the outside, within they are consumed by insects and being transformed into sawdust from the inside out.
And so it is with humans… How many of us give the outward appearance of wellness while gradually being eaten away on the inside by the insects of procrastination, selfishness and unforgiveness? Certainly the best preparation one can make for surviving the storms of life is to look inward and daily tend to cleaning out the bugs that would make us hollow.

Sometimes the appearance of wellness can protect the core while being repaired too.
Humans can be as fragile as glass, or hard as granite. Most of them are more like those logs than they would care to admit.

Good point Ian. Not all inner-rot is terminal.
